Photos do most of the work on a listing. People decide in seconds whether to read on. You do not need a fancy camera. A phone and a few simple habits are enough to show a room at its best while staying honest.
Tidy and prepare first
Open the curtains, turn on the lights, and clear away clutter. Make the bed and open the window for a minute so the room feels fresh. A tidy room looks bigger and more welcoming.
Use natural light
Shoot during the day with the curtains open. Natural light makes a room look warm and real. Avoid using flash, which flattens the room and creates harsh shadows.
Show the whole room
- •Take photos from the corners to show the full space.
- •Hold the phone level, not tilted, so walls look straight.
- •Include the bed, storage, window and any furniture.
- •Photograph the kitchen, bathroom and shared areas too.
- •Add an outside shot so people can picture the location.
Keep it honest
Show the room as it really is. Wide angle tricks and old photos lead to viewings that go nowhere and tenants who do not stay. Honest photos attract people who will actually be happy there. Our guide on writing a clear listing covers the words to go with them.
What to do next
Once your photos are ready, add them when you create your listing on Post a Place. Good photos plus clear facts about rent, benefits and availability give you the best enquiries. Read more on the for providers page.
